Mazda Minagi Concept @ Geneva Motor Show
5. March, 2011
Mazda’s compact crossover concept provides a sneak peek at the upcoming CX-5. The Japanese will show a preview of the Mazda Minagi at the Geneva motor show in early March. The exciting Minagi concept is the forerunner to the launch of Mazda’s upcoming next-generation products and symbolizes the evolution of the Mazda brand for a new era.
In design terms, the Minagi embraces Mazda’s elegant new ‘Kodo’ design, first seen on the Shinari saloon concept of last year. Kodo is the new credo, which means “the soul of movement”. According to Masashi Nakayama, Chief Designer MINAGI Concept: “I want to convey something different from Mazda SHINARI. I feel a compact crossover SUV is the perfect vehicle to express agility and movement“.
The Minagi is immediately recognizable as a Mazda because of the chrome elements. The Minagi’s styling isn’t groundbreaking or provocative, instead it’s a conservative but with a handsome mix of curves and sharp alignments.
Inside, the attractive styling carries over as the Minagi has a driver-focused cockpit with premium amenities and advanced technology. The leather interior is mainly in black.
Additionally, the Minagi also combines Mazda’s SKYACTIV technologies, which consists of the automaker’s next-generation powertrain, vehicle body and chassis designs. In the case of the new Minagi, the concept is equipped with a SKYACTIV engine and SKYACTIV transmission fitted to a SKYACTIV-Body and chassis that merges comprehensive weight reduction with sample safety features.
